You're not mediocre. Steinbeck was sometimes. Your stories are from the heart of a little curious boy, or a loving grandfather, a gambler, gunslinger, etc. They're warm and they feel good. You do a good job of entertaining. Look at the range of the ages of the people that enjoy your stuff enough to leave comments, and not frivilous ones either.
